The Canadian Unitarian Universalist Women’s Association (CUUWA) is a UU women’s organization with specific goals: to raise awareness about women’s history, rituals, and perspectives, through training, communication, celebration and many resources. The full mission statement and vision can be found on our About page.
We have two major events each year. The first is International Women’s Day, and the second is the CUUWA Annual Tea and General Meeting. All interested are welcome to attend both. We also organize a variety of other activities.
The Canadian Unitarian and Universalist Women’s Association (CUUWA) invites all congregations across Canada to celebrate International Women’s Day on one of the Sundays close to March 8, IWD, each year. It is our goal to have IWD services in all congregations. Will you help us achieve this goal of promoting awareness of gender equality and women’s issues? Please checkout the 2024 International Women’s Day Resource packet. You are welcome to browse previous theme packages and other service resources on our website.
In 2022, our IWD Resource Packet was on the Five Waves of Feminism.
The 2021 theme was Sacred Space. We compiled a package of worship, study, and creative materials to encourage you to reflect on shelter, safety, and power. We held a special International Women’s Day Service and the recording is available for use.
The 2020 International Women’s Day Worship and Study Package on “Wisdom” is still available.
Every two years, when the CUC Conference is held in real life, we hold a Tea and Annual General Meeting during Conference weekend. In the other years, we meet online by Zoom for a structured conversation and AGM. We have decided to ensure the annual meeting will be accessible and affordable for all by providing online access.
We met in June 2022 for our Cross-Country Conversation and Business Meeting. As for our two previous meetings, “Cuppa and Conversation” on June 27, 2020 and our 2021 Tea and AGM, we met on Zoom only.
Our last in-person gathering was the 2018 Annual Gathering in Hamilton on May 20th. It was a superb event. Check out the details.
